We are back here on Why Fish Radio. What was a planned hiatus became two months off. We appologize to you who have been with us from the beginning. We hope to be back for good now.

This week Durick is alone so you get to hear some commentary about the pure love of fishing. It turns out that young people are not participating in the outdoors and this is because of many reasons but the ones pointed out are that kids are lazy, parents have allowed schedules to be so hectic that there is simply no time left for the outdoors, and the outdoors industry has marketed itself to the point where many people feel it is simpy to expensive.

We want to remind everyone that fishing can be as simple or complex as you want to make it. So get out and enjoy the outdoors.

We have hockey on our minds this week. The University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux are in the WCHA playoffs and The Roseau Rams are in the Minnesota High School Hockey Tournament. Just a hockey full week here at Why Fish.

We do talk some fishing this week with a perch trip to Devils Lake that was successful. We also talk about the snow storm from last week that made getting around on the lakes tough but still possible with the snowmobiles.

Also, we talk about things that are coming up. One being the get together at Devils Lake for the Lake State Fishing crowd and our recently booked lake trout trip to Reed Lake, Manitoba.

We postponed the second half of our reunion of the past 2 years but we managed a special treat this week. Jon Falch joins us after returning from over four months in Iraq. He served with the Air Force in Southern Iraq. We talk about taking an avid fisherman from North Dakota/Wisconsin and sending him over seas. He tells us about watching ice fishing videos and reading fishing magazines that people sent over. We also visited about the limited fishing opportunity that Iraq had to offer.

The important part of this story is out friend has returned home safe and is ready to go fishing. (Like a wild man!)

This week we talk about the deep freeze we are in up here in the North Country. It is cold! We remember our last trip to the body of water which shall remain namless. We did some pike fishing and gave the Frabill Actic Sirens a work out. Again what a hoot to two grown men. They do have a use for people who want to be notified of a fish in the dark or low light times.
